Day 2

We were very surprised at how big the city of Naples is.  It seems to go on for a long time and there are two million people in this city.  Today, we drove from Naples to Positano.

Our driver Franco, was very nice and a good guide.  The drive was amazing and he highlighted lots of sites.  Everyone agreed that if we did this ourselves, it would have been trouble.  Franco stopped at many vistas so we could get out and take pictures.  The view of the Gulf of Naples is awesome.  The water was very clear and a deep blue-green.  We saw many people swimming down below the roads.

The road is winding streets on the edge of cliffs.  It’s a spectacular view but crazy scary too.  Barry would only sit on the left side of the car to be away from the edge. The streets are so small that large buses sometimes block traffic as they try to get through.

Our hotel is “Eden Roc” and it’s wonderful.   The rooms are very modern with separate sitting rooms and bedrooms.  There is a pool at the top with an amazing view of the sea.

Lynn, Jackie, and Bob took a walk down to the beach.  This is a long, steep walk down very small lanes.  Of course, the walk up is difficult.  The shops are very cool.  There is every shop imaginable along the walk, gelato, clothes, ceramics, etc.  And, restaurants are between every other shop.  Some of the streets are so small if you put your arms straight out, you could touch both walls; and the shop owners hang stuff on the walls.  It’s very tight.  Of course, Lynn and Jackie bought a Christmas ornament with a painting of Positano.

Tonight, we had a wine tasting and a lite dinner in the hotel.   Tomorrow is a tour of the Amalfi Coast.  We’ll post more then.

Ciao,
Roberto
