Maine 2008

Lynn and I had a great trip to Maine.    She traveled out on Tuesday and I joined her there on Thursday.  The primary objective was to “catch-up” with Tommy Laughlin which was very odd for me.  He didn’t even recognize Lynn and his heatlth is very poor.  Yet through all that, it obviously meant a great deal to him that we came to visit.

Our stay at Carolyn and Ted’s carriage house was awesome!  Their house is huge and beautiful.  We got to stay at the “carriage house” which is a three car garage with an apartment above.  It has two bedrooms, a full bath and kitchen.

On Saturday, we drove to Camden, Maine which is a great little harbor on Penobscot Bay.  Most of the day was spent sitting on a bench watching the boats come and go.  Just the two of us.  I could have stayed there for days.

Later, we took a day trip across the bay which has many islands.  Our ship the “Surprise” was directed by Captain Jack.  He and his wife have hosted day trips for 25 years.  At the start they said volunteers could help “hoist the sails”.  Shortly after we left port, Jack came and asked my name.  I said “Hi Jack, my name is Bob”.  Jack replied to the entire ship, “Hey, our first volunteer is Bob!!”.  The weather was wonderful for a two hour cruise.

Finally, we drove up to Mount Battie which overlooks the harbor.  We sat at the top with wine and cheese and enjoyed very relaxing sunny afternoon.

What a day!
