Glacier National Park — Montana Day 1

We are going to Glacier National Park for Kevin Hern’s wedding to Laura ???.  Neither of us have been there before and we’re very excited to see what it’s like.  They stories we’ve been told have been very impressive.

The Thursday trip out was uneventful.  Delta upgraded us to first class the whole trip.  Then, Avis upgraded our car; we have a Subaru Outback with 2000 miles on it.    This is going to be perfect because we have lots of driving to do over the next week.

Our “Lodge” room is nice but not glamorous.  It’s very clean and feels new.  There aren’t many amenities.  For example, there is no closet for hanging up your dress or suit for the wedding.  And, since the clothes are wrinkled being packed all day, an iron would be a luxury we don’t have.  The outside deck is wonder for a casual gathering.  We watch the clouds (and occasional rain shower) cross in front of the mountains,

After settling in, we drove into town for a welcome gathering with the Herns.  It was very nice. Literally everyone attending the wedding is from our of town.  Mostly from Cincinnati but a few from Michigan and California.

On Friday, a large group of Nancy’s family and friends went into the park for a boat ride on Lake McDonald.  The views are spectacular.  After the boat cruise, Lynn and I lunch at Lake McDonald Lodge and then went for a hike around John’s Lake.  It was about three easy miles of packed dirt and a few rocks.  We cross many river rapids.  Again, the sites are awesome.
